With that partnership in place, New Zealand only needed 88 runs from 16.3 overs to win the game. They were 213 for 5; at the end of the 40th over and required 58 runs from 60 balls, which they finally achieved.
As India reached 270 for 6, captain Mithali Raj continued her superb form with an unbeaten 66; while Richa Gosh also hit a half-century.
Raj remained unbeaten on 66 off 81 balls after scoring 59; in a losing cause in the first ODI on Saturday.
Gosh, the young wicketkeeper-batter, though; outshone her skipper with a magnificent 65 off 64 balls that included six fours and a six.
In 17.4 overs, Gosh and Raj added 108 runs for the fifth wicket; to help India set a difficult target for the hosts. Gosh struggled in the latter stages of her innings, attempting to get quick runs. Raj hit three fours in his perfect inning. Sabbhineni Meghana also contributed with a 50-ball 49 that contained seven fours to help Shafali Varma (24); who failed to convert another promising start, put up 61 runs for the first wicket. With the exception of vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur; Yastika Bhatia, who had struck 41 in the previous match, contributed 31 from 38 balls; this time as the Indian top-order put in a good performance.

Kaur’s poor form continued, as she only managed 10 runs off 18 balls, the same as in the first match.
