A man marries 14 women from seven different states in Odisha.
According to authorities, a sexagenarian was arrest in Bhubaneswar on Monday for reportedly marrying 14 women in seven states over the course of 48 years.
It is also said that the man, who originates from a village in Odisha’s Kendrapara district’s Patkura police station, stole money from these women before escaping.
The man who was arrest, on the other hand, rejects the charges.
In 1982, the accused married for the first time, and in 2002, he married for the second time. According to Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Umashankar Dash, he fathered five children from these two marriages.
He befriended other women using matrimonial websites between 2002 and 2020, Dash alleged, and married them without informing the previous wives.
The man was in the state capital of Odisha with his previous wife, a Delhi schoolteacher. She discovered his previous marriages through some means and filed a police report.
He was apprehend while staying in a leased apartment.
The accused’s method of operation, according to the DCP, was to target middle-aged single women, usually divorcees, who used matrimonal websites to find companionship. He eventually gets their money and then abandons them.
He used to call himself a doctor and married lawyers, physicians, and women with advanced degrees. Dash stated one of her victims was a woman who worked in a paramilitary squad.
He has defrauded women in seven states: Delhi, Punjab, Assam, Jharkhand, and Odisha, to name a few. His first two marriages were both from the state of Odisha.
The matter came to light, according to the DCP, when the schoolteacher filed a complaint with the Mahila police in July of last year, alleging that the accused married her in New Delhi in 2018 and transported her to Bhubaneswar.

After she learned of his previous marriages, she filed a complaint with the police, and he was detain.
He had 11 ATM cards, four Aaadhaar cards, and other documents taken from him.

He was previously detained in Hyderabad and Ernakulam for defrauding unemployed youths and committing loan fraud, according to authorities.
