Salman Butt says “Don’t think you will see Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik back in Pakistan’s ODI team”

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes that experienced campaigners Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez should not play in one-day internationals for the country.

The two senior members, according to the ex-opener, have made a huge contribution to Pakistan cricket’s success this year. Butt believes it is now time for younger players to take the lead.

“I don’t think you will see Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik back in Pakistan’s ODI team. Now the new boys have to come. The two have done their part with Pakistan cricket and they have done a wonderful job.” he said

Both Malik and Hafeez were members of Pakistan’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates, which ended recently. Both players, though, have elected to skip their T20I series against the West Indies at home.

In addition, Hafeez had withdrawn from Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Malik was included in the Bangladesh T20I squad, however owing to his son’s illness, he was unavailable for selection for the final match.

“Mohammad Wasim Jr. is an outstanding talent and should be groomed. Faheem Ashraf is doing well in Tests, and if his form continues, then he could also be given a chance in white-ball. His grooming time is over and he should now be ready as he has been playing international cricket for 4-5 years.” he said

Salman Butt also chastised Pakistan’s board for their First-Class wage system. Butt acknowledged that since becoming the PCB president, Ramiz Raja had raised player salary, but he questioned the lack of security.
