Despite a poor start to their IPL 2024 campaign, Mumbai Indians (MI) have received some good news: their star batter Suryakumar Yadav has been certified fit to compete in the ongoing season. Notably, the swashbuckling batsman, who has been an important part of the Mumbai Indians outfit for many years, sustained a grade II rupture in his ankle during the third T20I against South Africa in December 2023.

Following that, he underwent a hernia operation in London before beginning rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The 33-year-old subsequently rule out of the first few games of the season after the NCA did not provide him with fitness clearance. However, he has finally been cleared for selection by the five-time champions. Also expect to play Mumbai’s next game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, April 7 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

“He’s fit now. The NCA had him play a few practice games, and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians. We wanted to ensure that when Surya return to MI, hes fully fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness test before the IPL. So we wait to see if he was in pain while batting,” a BCCI source told IndianExpress.
