Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting praised Babar Azam. Babar Azam name ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2022, as well as ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for the second year in a row.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been a key member of his country’s squad for many years. In 2022, the 28-year-old earned the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy as ICC Cricketer of the Year. He was also named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for the second time in a row.
Babar was overjoyed when great Aussie batter Ricky Ponting recently congratulated him. “I think Babar’s still got a little bit of development to come,” Ponting stated on ‘The ICC Review’.
Following hearing Ponting’s compliments. The 28-year-old stated that it is always fantastic to receive compliments from one of the best hitters of all time.
“When a renowned player compliments you, you get confidence and want to be better. When such a great player makes favorable words about you, it boosts your confidence, and you know that such a huge player is speaking well of you. Because these athletes have been through a comparable time, they understand my thinking. They have dealt with comparable situations and are familiar with the game.” Babar inform the ICC.

Ponting also praised Azam captaincy approach
After leading Pakistan to two consecutive T20 World Cup semi-finals, Ricky Ponting believes there is still more for Babar to learn moving forward, which might help him become a stronger captain.
Ponting also indicated that he believes Babar might become a good captain with additional experience, just as he has improved his batting over the years.
“I’m confident he’ll find the perfect approach to lead and be a very successful captain of Pakistan with a bit more experience under his belt, as he’s done with his batting,” Ponting added.
