All South African and Australian players will wear floppy hats during the national anthems. At the Melbourne Cricket Ground in tribute of the renowned Australian cricketer Shane Warne (MCG). The MCG will host the Boxing Day Test. Which will also be the first Test at the stadium since Warne’s death earlier this year. In March, in Thailand, at the age of 52.

During his long career, the Australian legend took 708 Test wickets. Many of his most memorable performances were at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground. When Warne dismiss then-England captain Andrew Strauss for his 700th Test wicket at the same location in 2006, local supporters would go to the stadium to express their support.

The Shane Warne Stand at the arena’s southern end rename in honor of the renown cricketer. Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley noted that it was critical for fans to be able to commemorate Warne and recognize his achievements throughout his career.

“Shane is an icon to cricket fans internationally for the magnitude of his cricketing feats. His charm, and his contagious excitement for the game. His place as an Australian and global sporting great is certain. While we continue to grieve his death. It is right that we pay tribute to Shane at his favourite Boxing Day Test at the MCG,” Hockley added.

Fans should wear floppy hats and apply zinc cream

Cricket Australia has prepared a variety of honors for the forthcoming Test match, and both sides will wear Shane Warne’s famed floppy white hat. For the length of the game, Warne’s renowned Test cap number, 350, will be painted squarely on the wicket.

On Boxing Day, at 3.50 p.m., a visual of Warne will emerge on the MCG screens, and highlights of the well-known Victorian will be displayed throughout the game. Spectators will be urged to don Warne’s distinctive floppy hat and apply his famous zinc cream.

“Shane became identifiable not just through his intelligence and mastery of the art of leg spin, but also his floppy hat and zinc, therefore we invite spectators to honour Shane by wearing their own floppy hat and zinc to Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test. “I believe I speak for the whole cricket community when I say that our thoughts are with Shane’s family and friends, especially his children Brooke, Jackson, and Summer,” he continued.
