Suryakumar Yadav, the Mumbai Indians’ star hitter, is unlikely to play in the IPL opener against the Delhi Capitals on March 27 due to a hairline fracture in his thumb. Yadav, one of Mumbai Indians’ four retained players, suffered the injury during the T20 series against the West Indies and was unable to participate against Sri Lanka.
“Surya is now undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA. He is on the mend, but his participation in the first game might be a true toss-up,” a senior BCCI source familiar with the situation told PTI on condition of anonymity.
“So it’s possible that the board’s medical team will urge him not to play the opening,” he continued.
Apart from skipper Rohit Sharma and their Rs 15.25 crore ‘buy-back’ Ishan Kishan, Yadav is MI’s most significant batter. As a result, even the MI team management would never risk anything because they have a bigger picture to consider. After their first game, MI has a five-day break before facing Rajasthan Royals on April 2. By then, it’s expected that the 360-degree power-hitter will be ready to play.
“I believe he’ll be 100 percent match fit by the second MI game.” If he doesn’t play the first game, it’s more likely to be a preventative measure,” the insider stated. During the T20 series against the West Indies, Yadav was outstanding, winning the ‘Player of the Series’ award.

MCC regulations apply to two DRS referrals per team.
The BCCI has sent the Playing Conditions to all franchises; with two Decision Review System (DRS) referrals per club being one of the more welcome changes. All new MCC rules will also apply, which means saliva will not be allows to shine the ball, a restriction that was put in place as a result of COVID-19 but has now been formalized as a permanent amendment by the guardian of cricket laws.
The revised MCC code also removes ‘Mankading,’ or run-outs at the non-end, striker’s from the definition of “unfair play.”
The dismissal, which has frequently sparked arguments about the’spirit of the game,’ is now classified as a simple run out. The new MCC regulations for international cricket will take effect in October.
Rohit and Bumrah join the MI team.

The national team duo would not be requires to endure a three-day; rigorous quarantine (limited to hotel rooms) because it was a bubble to bubble transfer. All players joining their franchises in a bubble to bubble transfer are subject to the rule.
