Umesh Yadav provided India with a major breakthrough at the stroke of lunch on Day 3 by dismissing Kane Williamson

At the stroke of noon on the third day, Umesh Yadav gave India a big breakthrough by dismissing New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. In India’s first Test match against New Zealand at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium, this might be a turning point.

At the crease, Williamson exuded confidence, used his adept defense to counter Indian spinners. With the second new ball, India’s Umesh Yadav did the trick.

In the 86th over of New Zealand’s first innings, the Kiwi skipper was caught in front of the wickets. After being called out by the on-field umpire, he quickly requested a review, expecting that his height would save him.

However, because the ball tracking indicated three reds, he had to do the long trek back. Before being removed, the hitter managed to score 18 runs off 64 deliveries.

The third day of the Test series opener featured a tense struggle between bat and ball in the morning session. The courage and determination of the New Zealand batting shone through, but the Indian spinners took two crucial wickets.

New Zealand were 241-6 at the time of writing this report, trailing by 104 runs. After Rachin Ravindra’s dismissal, Kyle Jamieson has replaced Tom Blundell at the crease.

In New Zealand’s first innings, openers Tom Latham and Will Young pieced together a magnificent 151-run partnership. Young and Williamson’s wickets would have given India a lot of confidence. They will, however, have to bowl themselves out of their skins in order to bundle out their opponents.

India scored an astounding 345 runs after winning the toss and electing to bat first at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. Shreyas Iyer, who made his debut for the hosts, excelled with the bat, smashing a wonderful century.
