Former Indian seamer Zaheer Khan has commended former Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins with encouraging him by demonstrating that bowlers can also lead well. Pat Cummins reflected on his time with the Delhi Daredevils under Zaheer Khan in the IPL 2017 and said he had no regrets.
Pat Cummins name the nation’s 47th Test captain on Friday by Cricket Australia. The 28-year-old will lead Australia in the forthcoming Ashes series, replacing keeper-batsman Tim Paine. However, there is a question about Cummins’ ability to perform as a frontline bowler.

Zaheer Khan, according to Pat Cummins, led the way, stating he performed a terrific job and didn’t seem to be struggling. Khan was recognized by the number one Test bowler with assisting him with field modifications.
“I really liked his work tactically around T20s. He was just fantastic. Just someone great to bounce bowling ideas off. It was even better that he was at the top of my mark, you know, helping me set fields and tactics. I saw pretty clearly there the benefits of it. I didn’t see too many drawbacks. It’s a different format, but I thought he fantastic,” Cummins said
Since Ray Lindwall in 1956, Cummins is the first frontline bowler to captain Australia. The New South Wales bowler, on the other hand, has no international experience as a skipper but did act as Paine’s deputy.
“There’s a couple of more unknowns about having a bowling captain. That’s why from the outset I was absolutely determined if I captain to have someone like Steve as vice-captain. I feel like I’ve got quite a lot of experience to draw on. A lot of the problems or potential issues around being a fast-bowling captain. I’m sure we’ll be able to work through.” he said
Smith’s return to the leadership role has elicited varied reactions. With some former cricketers believing that Cricket Australia should move on from him. He is, nevertheless, one of the batting unit’s most experienced and vital players.
