Suresh Raina, the backbone of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), was not selected by the franchise during the Indian Premier League (IPL) super auction held in Bengaluru recently. Raina was dropped for Robin Uthappa near the close of last season, and it appeared that the former’s race was over. The fact that the left-hander went unsold was proven at this auction. Raina is a CSK icon, and every member of the franchise holds him in high regard. However, this was a move-on auction. Replacement for Suresh Raina was difficult, yet he didn’t fit into our team’s makeup: CEO of CSK.

With 5,528 runs from 205 games, the former India southpaw is the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history. He has scored 4,687 runs for CSK alone.

“For the past 12 years, Raina has been one of CSK’s most consistent performers. Of course, not having Raina was difficult for us, but you should also understand that team composition is dependent on the form and type of team that any team would like to have,” Viswanath remarked on CSK’s YouTube account.
“That’s one of the reasons we thought he wouldn’t fit in with this group,” he continued.

The four-time winners emerged from the auction with a well-balanced group capable of challenging for the crown once more. With an eye on the future, CSK brought back some of their more experienced players and backed them up with youth.
