IPL 2021 As such, Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer, believes the Delhi Capitals (DC) rely far too heavily on opener Shikhar Dhawan’s runs.
Dhawan has scored the most runs for DC this season, with 551 in 15 games. However, he scored the majority of his runs in India during the first half of the tournament. The Delhi-born opener has only managed to score 171 runs in seven matches since the IPL resumed in the UAE, with an average of 24.
During the second part of the competition, Dhawan’s strike rate has also dropped, and he has yet to score at a rate better than 122.
While previewing IPL Qualifier 2 between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, Sanjay Manjrekar stated that every time Dhawan has misfired, the DC batting lineup has shown symptoms of weakness.
“On paper, Delhi Capitals are formidable,” Manjrekar said in a video on Instagram. “Prithvi Shaw has been sensational but if Dhawan gets runs, DC looks a completely different side. Dhawan has been going off the boil. Their batting looks fragile down the order.” he said
“They haven’t found an adequate replacement of Stoinis,” Manjrekar added. “They played Curran because they needed to give some support to Avesh Khan, who has leaked some runs in the last couple of games,” he added
In his preview, Manjrekar also mentioned that the game versus KKR in Sharjah should feature Australian batter, Steve Smith. Surprisingly, Manjrekar suggested that DC dismiss pacer Kagiso Rabada to make room for the Australian.
Tom Curran
On a sluggish surface in Sharjah, Manjrekar believes DC should keep However, Tom Curran in the lineup to use his variety. Based on their present form, the Capitals should drop Rabada rather than Curran, according to the former Indian cricketer.
Therefore, Rabada, who won the purple cap in the last edition of the IPL, has struggled in this year’s UAE leg.
