Deepak Chahar is likely to return in the IPL 2023. The 30-year-old was sidelined from cricket for six months due to two major injuries sustained in 2022.
Deepak Chahar, an Indian seam bowling all-rounder, is totally healthy and ready to play in the forthcoming Indian Premier League, which begins on March 31. Throughout 2022, the 30-year-old had two major injuries that kept him out of professional cricket for six months.
The Agra-born cricketer has battled a stress fracture and, more recently, a quad grade 3 rupture. He last appeared for India in the second One-Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh in December 2022, when he was injured after bowling three overs.
Chahar appeared in 15 matches for India in 2022 and was forced out of the T20 World Cup owing to injury despite making a return only a few months prior. After undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

He is currently preparing for the IPL, where he will play for the Chennai Super Kings.
“I have been working hard on my fitness over the past two and a half months, and I am totally fit and prepared well for the IPL,” Chahar was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“I had two major injuries. The first was a stress fracture, while the second was a quad grade 3 tear. Both are significant injuries. You’ll be gone for months. It takes time for anyone to recover from an injury, especially quick bowlers. If I were a batsman, I would be playing far back, but as a fast bowler, it is really difficult to get back on track after a stress fracture. Some bowlers may be seen suffering with their backs,” he noted.
Chahar made his return to competitive cricket last month with a First-Class match against Services, which also served as his sole Ranji Trophy participation. Injuries have hampered Chahar’s career thus far, preventing him from cementing his spot in the National squad. He does, however, want to be a part of the team for the ODI World Cup in 2023.
“I’ve spent my entire life by one guideline. There is nothing that can stop me if I am totally bowling and hitting the way I want. It was the fundamental guideline by which I began my profession. I don’t care who plays or who doesn’t; my goal is to get totally healthy and perform at a high level with the ball and bat. “If I do that, I’ll get my opportunities,” he added.
Women’s cricket will grow very fast due to WPL: Chahar
The inaugural Women’s Premier League will take place prior to the 2023 IPL. Chahar also expressed his enthusiasm for India’s top Women’s T20 league ahead of its first season.
“IPL transformed men’s cricket forever, guys received a lot of possibilities. The same will happen in the Women’s Premier League. Women’s cricket will expand quickly because they will be exposed to international players early in their careers. It would also benefit many female cricketers who have been unable to earn a living and will increase competitiveness,” he added.
