Earlier, Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of India, had argued in favor of Suryakumar Yadav’s selection in the Indian Test team, referring to him as a “three-format player” who is capable of performing admirably in red-ball cricket.
“I think he is a three-format player. I know they don’t talk about him for Test cricket. Let me tell you. This guy can play Test cricket and he can surprise a few. Send him there at No. 5 and let him stir it up,”

The Mumbai batsman has a remarkable red-ball record as well, scoring nearly 5,000 runs at an average of 44.01 in First-Class play. He has 26 half-centuries and 14 centuries under his name. Suryakumar was a member of India’s Test teams for the home and away series against New Zealand and England, although he has not yet been inserted into the starting lineup or made his formal red-ball debut.
According to BCCI sources, Ravindra Jadeja may not be fully healthy for the Bangladesh Tests after having knee surgery after being disqualified from the Asia Cup 2022.
“Jadeja has been to NCA for his check-up and rehab on a number of occasion. However as of now, it is unlikely that he will be fit for the Bangladesh series. In any case, Chetan Sharma-led former selection committee had kept him in the squad subject to fitness,”
