The Asia Cup is set to reignite the epic rivalry between neighbours India and Pakistan as the arch-rivals will clash in a blockbuster group stage match on the 28th of August in Dubai. Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting chose his winner for the high voltage clash between the two cricketing giants.

“I’ll back India to win that game against Pakistan. ” That is not to diminish Pakistan’s incredible cricket nation, which continues to produce out-and-out superstar players. “Their depth is definitely better than the other teams. I think India will win the Asia Cup. ” Ponting said on The ICC Review with Sanjana Ganesan.
India and Pakistan last met in the 2021 T20 World Cup group stage. Where the Men in Blue were defeated and will be out for vengeance this time. While the Indian team has been revitalized under the new leadership of the mercurial Rohit Sharma, Pakistan has shown no signs of weakness under Babar Azam, making this a must-see match.

Due to the ongoing political squabble between the neighbors, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series in over a decade. Ponting stated that seeing the two Asian heavyweights renew their rivalry in the game’s longest format will take Test cricket to the next level for both countries, citing the Ashes series between Australia and England.
“When I think of rivalries, Australia and England and Ashes cricket are at the top of my list.” It’s something I’ve always considered for our Test match game. I’m sure India and Pakistan will agree, and the actual rivalry would be the pinnacle of Test match cricket for both countries,” Ponting added.
