India captain Virat Kohli was pleasantly shocked when he won the hurl at the 3rd Test against Britain at Headingley on Wednesday. Kohli had no faltering to select to bat despite an overcast morning after winning the toss in Leeds.
Outstandingly, Virat Kohli had never managed to win the toss as Test captain before Wednesday in England. Kohli had lost 8 tosses as Test captain on the jog within the Old Blight before switching the fortunes at Headingley. It was Joe Root who spun the coin and the India captain shocked himself by calling it right.
England vs India 3rd Test Day 1
Usually also the primary time Kohli has won the toss in Tests since the Chennai Test in February against England.
“It’s a surprise I’ve won the toss. We’re batting first. Looks firm and without grass and runs on the board will set this up. We’re going in with the same XI,” Kohli said.
Ravindra Jadeja
Kohli named an unaltered XI, putting a conclusion to the theory around the inclusion of World No. 2 off-spinner R Ashwin within the team after he missed the first two Tests. Kohl had insisted at the pre-match interaction with the press that India would not alter a winning group unless there were injury concerns. Kohli conceded India was thinking around including Ashwin but needed to hold the winning combination of 4 pacers and a spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
R Ashwin
“We thought about getting R Ashwin in, and the pressure of the extra seamer in these conditions is crucial. Jadeja will bowl a lot more overs because the conditions are suited to him. You can lay down markers and a culture, but it’s upto the boys to take it up and win from pressure situations. It’s all about handling pressure at the highest level,” Kohli added.
