KL Rahul analyses LSG’s crushing defeat to KKR at Ekana. “When chasing a large score, you attempt to push hard and end up losing wickets. So it was simply a horrible overall performance,” Rahul explained.
Lucknow Super Giants suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in the 54th game of the IPL (Indian Premier League). On Sunday, May 5, both sides faced off at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. The match began with KKR coming in to bat first and producing an excellent performance with the bat, scoring 235 runs in the first innings.

LSG only scored 137 runs in the run chase, losing by 98 runs
Interestingly, it was the first time in seven IPL 2024 matches that a team scored 200 or more while batting first in Lucknow.
Speaking about his team’s performance, LSG captain KL Rahul stated that trying to go hard while chasing the mammoth total resulted in some early wickets, branding it a poor performance by his team.
“When chasing a large total, you try to go hard and end up losing wickets. So it was a poor overall performance,” KL Rahul said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Furthermore, Rahul discussed how the opener duo of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine put some early pressure on LSG’s bowlers, and how his team’s young bowlers were unable to handle the pressure.
“We have seen how they batted. They applied a lot of pressure on the opposition, and our young bowlers couldn’t handle it. He [Narine] hit some really good shots, and that’s how the IPL works: you’ll face some really good players, and your character will be tested. And I don’t think we performed well today,” Rahul said.
“Once we get here [to Lucknow], it’s all about execution, and we failed on that front. Bowlers did their best. But the sooner you understand, the better it is for our staff,” he explained.
