The seventeenth edition of the world-renowned IPL is just a few days away. Bengaluru is facing an acute water crisis. However, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA. ) Which manages the iconic M.Chinnaswamy Stadium and will host RCB home matches, is optimistic about meeting the water requirements for the upcoming IPL games.
The city’s severe water shortage has raised concerns about how it will affect ground maintenance and the hosting of matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The KSCA organized a special meeting to discuss the potential consequences and find solutions to the water crisis.
Shubendu Ghosh, CEO of KSCA, expressed confidence in the association’s ability to meet the water requirements for the upcoming matches by installing an in-house sewage treatment plant (STP) at the stadium.
He stated, “We are not currently experiencing a crisis. We have received the state government’s water usage guidelines and are in constant meetings to ensure compliance,” Ghosh said.

Concerned about the acute water shortage, Ghosh highlight the use of treated water from the STP for essential purposes such as watering the outfield and pitch. “We may require 10,000-15,000 litres of water for match purposes. We are confident that it can be generated from the STP plant,” he added.
On March 25, RCB will play their first home game of the IPL 2024 against the Punjab Kings. Officials from Royal Challengers expressed confidence in the arrangements made by the KSCA, saying,
“We are aware of the situation and have contacted the KSCA office bearers. But we have another two weeks until the first match here. So, we are confident that the matches will run smoothly,” said an anonymous Royal Challengers official.
RCB’s remaining home games in the first half of the season are against the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Lucknow SuperGiants. On March 22nd, RCB will play their curtain raiser against the Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.
