There’s so much to learn from Meg Lanning: Jemimah Rodrigues. “Lanning is not someone who would demand respect. She just walks in and everyone automatically has that respect for her. ” Said Rodrigues.
Delhi Capitals had a fantastic campaign in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) last year as they finished runners-up. In 2024, they have once again assembled a formidable squad and will look to lift the coveted title.
The Capitals will once again have the legendary Meg Lanning at the helm. She had a scintillating season with the bat last year, finishing as the highest run-getter with 345 runs from nine innings at an average of 49.28 and a strike rate of 139.11. This year, Lanning, who guided Australia to an incredible five ICC titles, will want to inspire her troops en route to the title.
The experienced campaigner, who retired from international cricket in November 2023, recently received immense praise from her Delhi Capitals teammate Jemimah Rodrigues. The talented young batter spoke about how much the players respect her.
“There’s so much to learn from her. She is not someone who would demand respect. She just walks in and everyone automatically has that respect for her. Just walking with her, up close and personal, I never thought I would get that opportunity,” Jemimah told JioCinema.

I spoke to Meg Lanning regarding captaincy: Jemimah Rodrigues
Lanning became the youngest Australian captain while she was standing in for the injured Jodie Fields during the Women’s Ashes in January 2014. She was only 21 years old at that time. Later that year, the right-handed batter led Australia to the T20 World Cup title. Jemimah said that she spoke to Lanning about how she dealt with captaincy at such a young age.
“In fact, I spoke to her regarding captaincy and how she dealt with it. She was made captain at a very young age. And captaincy is so much more than on the field, there are so many things you have to handle and on top of that, your own batting,” Rodrigues added.
Delhi Capitals will be in action in the opening game of WPL 2024. They will lock horns with defending champions Mumbai Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, February 23.
