The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) denied on Tuesday that it had given a directive to Team India’s players and support staff over the new dietary plan. Arun Dhumal, BCCI treasurer, stated that players are allowed to eat anything they want and that the board has no say in the matter.
After certain media reports indicated that the BCCI had prohibited beef and pork in all forms under Team India’s new food plan, a huge uproar ensued. According to reports, the cricketers were also told that they could only eat ‘halal’ meat.
“The BCCI has not given any direction to any player or team staff on what to eat and also what not to eat. All these rumours are baseless. This diet plan has never been discussed and will not be enforced. The board doesn’t advise anyone on what to eat and what not to eat. They are free to choose their own food.” he said
After reports of a putative nutrition plan for Indian players surfaced. The hashtag “BCCI Promotes Halal” began trending on Twitter. The debate about the diet plan split the internet. Some individuals supporting it and also others opposing it.
Meanwhile, ahead of the first Test, Team India began their practice sessions in Kanpur on Tuesday. Images of the Indian squad practicing for the first Test were released on the BCCI’s official Twitter account.
