Gary Stead- “For us it’s about being able to adapt quickly to what the surface is telling us” in IND vs NZ 2021

In their impending two-match Test series against India, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has identified flexibility to spin as the most important component for the visitors.

The Blackcaps were thrashed in the Twenty20 International series and are looking to make a statement in the longer format. The subcontinent, on the other hand, is a landscape where they have struggled in the past.

Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel, the spin trio, pose a threat on these subcontinent surfaces, according to Stead. He also mentioned how crucial it will be to adjust to changes in turn throughout the Test match.

The dry pitches on the subcontinent have a tendency to offer spin right away, although in a quiet manner, before progressively increasing. During a virtual press conference, while responding to a question from ANI.

“I think whenever you come here and face the likes of Ashwin, Jadeja, Axar Patel, who are world-class spinners in this environment as well. For us it’s about being able to adapt quickly to what the surface is telling us and what is right in front of us.” Stead said

“Sometimes when you start the match, it may not be spinning too much but it does come later on. So having multiple ideas or ways to challenge the bowlers back will be something that will be important to our group.” he added

As part of the World Test Championship’s second cycle, Test matches will be held in Kanpur and Mumbai. The last time New Zealand traveled India for a Test series was in 2018, they were defeated 3-0.
