Madison Keys maintained her comeback 2022 season with reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open. And resurgent is perhaps an understatement
Her quarterfinal win over French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova on Tuesday was her 10th in a row and 11th of the year. This includes five victories at Melbourne Park, five in winning the Adelaide International title 10 days ago, and one in the first week of the season at a Melbourne tournament. In the year 2021, what is her total number of victories? 11 is the same number as before.
In an on-court interview, Keys said, “I did everything I could to rest this summer; and focus on starting fresh and new. Starting from zero and not thinking on last year. So far, I think it’s going nicely!
Keys explained, I was just at a really high anxiety level all of the time. I wasn’t getting enough sleep. It felt like a weight was on my chest because I had become so concentrated and obsessed; with it that I wasn’t enjoying anything else since it was all I could think about.”
Krejcikova took a medical timeout with a 5-2 deficit in the first set; possibly due to heat exhaustion, and was sluggish at points during the 35-minute second set.
