Dwayne Bravo, the seasoned all-rounder for the West Indies cricket team, is scheduled to retire from international cricket after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Bravo confirmed this while appearing on an ICC show lately.
The 38-year-old expressed his thanks for having the opportunity to represent his country for 18 years. Winning three ICC titles, according to Bravo, is a highlight of his cricketing career.
“I think the time has come. I’ve had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long.” he said
“To win three ICC trophies, two with my captain (Daren Sammy) on the left here. One thing I am proud about is that the era of cricketers we had we were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stage and not only do that but have silverware to show for it.” Bravo added
T20 World Cup
The seasoned veteran was a member of the West Indies team that won the T20 World Cup the previous year. He was also a key member of the team as it won the coveted T20 World Cup trophy in 2012.
Bravo was the first player to hold an ICC trophy, which he did in 2004. The West Indies defeated England in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy to win the multi-nation event at the time.
However, After a 20-run loss to Sri Lanka on Thursday, the West Indies are no longer in contention for the semi-finals (November 4). The tournament, according to Bravo, did not go as planned. He does not believe, however, that the athletes should feel bad about themselves after their poor performance.
“It wasn’t the World Cup we expected, it wasn’t the World Cup we wanted as players. We shouldn’t feel sorry for ourselves, it was a tough competition, we should keep our heads high,” he added.
Therefore, Bravo will play his final international match on Saturday, November 6, after appearing in 90 T20Is. In the last match of the T20 World Cup 2021, the West Indies will face Australia. The Kieron Pollard-led side has only one win to their name so far in this edition and will be hoping for a consolation win against the Aussies.
