Former Australia paceman Brett Lee believes Ravichandran Ashwin has the ability to play in all of India’s matches. He did, however, remind out that skipper Virat Kohli and the selectors are ultimately in charge of the choice.
The cricketer-turned-commentator acknowledged to being a fan of the Indian off-spinner in an interview with ANI. Brett Lee also emphasized the veteran campaigner’s extensive experience playing at the highest level.
“If you are after an angle about Ashwin, he is first and foremost a wonderful cricketer. I am a big fan and he has got a lot to offer, he is very very experienced. He is a great leader and of course, he can play every single game. Here’s what he said
‘They (team management) chose not to play him and that is on them. But whether he should be in the XI is up to the selectors and captain to make a call.” Brett Lee further added
The Indian bowling attack failed to pick even a single wicket in their T20 World Cup 2021 opener against Pakistan. Ashwin has always been regarded as a wicket-taker. If he is selected to face New Zealand, he might be Virat Kohli’s go-to bowler in this vital match.
While he hasn’t played in a T20I since 2017, the 35-year-old has been a steady performer in the Indian Premier League. The bowler was successful in creating a huge impact with his tidy spells in the most recent edition as well.
Ravindra Jadeja
While he only managed to take seven wickets in 13 games, he had a remarkable economy rate of 7.41. Ravindra Jadeja is a foregone conclusion on the side. If the team management wants to mix things up, Ashwin may be a like-for-like replacement for Varun Chakravarthy.
