Devdutt Padikkal, according to former India batsman Gautam Gambhir, left too much work for even a genius like AB de Villiers to do in the chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
A match 52 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Abu Dhabi. Thus, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were defeated by SRH by four runs. To win, RCB needed 142 marks. Therefore, The chase was halted by starter Padikkal’s 52-ball 41.
“You expect RCB to chase anything with the kind of batting they have? On this wicket in Abu Dhabi, 190 got chased a couple of days. Yes, there was some very good bowling from Sunrisers but there was some very mediocre batting from RCB as well.” Gambhir said
After consuming a large number of deliveries during his innings, Gambhir believes Padikkal should have batted till the end.
AB de Villiers
“Devdutt Padikkal scored 41 runs off 52 balls. You expect the hitter to finish the match. After batting for so many deliveries. You’ve left AB de Villiers with far too much. You got Maxwell run out as well. When he was heading off the rails. That wasn’t the most successful single. Unfortunately for RCB, the batting was not the finest, but the bowling was excellent. As was the captaincy (by SRH).” he said
After 14 overs, RCB were 92 for 3 and Maxwell was in charge of the chase. However, after a mix-up with Padikkal, the latter was run out, and RCB was never able to recover.
Christian was promoted to No. 3 by RCB during the chase, but he was only out for one run. Gambhir slammed Bangalore for the move, claiming that it forced De Villiers. Their finest batsman, to bat at No. 6.
