Yuzvendra Chahal, according to Ajay Jadeja, can now question captain Virat Kohli over his non-selection for the T20 World Cup squad. Jadeja’s statement comes after Chahal’s outstanding performance in the current IPL season’s UAE leg.
Jadeja made his remarks after the Haryana leg-spinner produced yet another outstanding performance (3/29 in four overs). The Royal Challengers Bangalore won this game against the Punjab Kings to go to the playoffs.
In an interview with CricBuzz Live, Jadeja claimed that Chahal thrives in high-pressure situations. Chahal’s street smarts, according to the former Indian cricketer, come to the fore in difficult situations.
“Chahal’s skills and mental sharpness come to the fore during high-pressure run-chases. He scripted a turnaround in just one over. After he dismissed Mayank Agarwal, he was mentally all over the rest of the batsmen. Perhaps, now he can ask captain Kohli about his snub from the T20 World Cup squad which he couldn’t have done before because his performance wasn’t great,” said Ajay Jadeja.
Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran provided Chahal with his maiden wicket. He followed that up by dismissing a threatening-looking Mayank Agarwal and Sarfaraz Khan in a single over.
One of the greatest discussion topics in Indian cricket was Chahal’s absence from India’s T20 World Cup roster. The decision of the selector has been questioned by fans and pundits.
To put things in perspective, Chahal’s performance has dipped dramatically in the 15 months preceding up to the IPL’s UAE leg.
Since the start of the year, the right-arm leggie has only taken 11 wickets in 13 T20Is, averaging 41.36 and a high economy rate of 8.92.
If Chahal maintains his excellent form in the remaining games of the season, he may find himself in India’s T20 World Cup roster.
