Shubman Gill hit his first half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 on Sunday, helping Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a key match. Gill hit 57 off 51 balls in a low-scoring game. To help KKR chase down 116 and stay in fourth place, with playoff qualification still up for grabs.
Former India batsman Ajay Jadeja, on the other hand, remained critical of Gill, claiming that after his injury in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, other players had risen ahead of him.
Gill’s Test spot, according to Jadeja, was already at risk due to KL Rahul’s return in the series against England and Rohit Sharma’s outstanding performances. Other young openers like Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, according to Jadeja, have now overtaken Gill in the T20s with their performances this season.
“This year has not been a good one for Shubman Gill. When he came back from injury, other players had moved way ahead of him. Because he had become a favorite in the Indian team after the series in Australia. After his injury, KL Rahul, who wasn’t even in the team, has established himself, Rohit Sharma, too. So even his place in the Test squad is now in doubt, and in T20s, all these names are also there ahead of him now,” said Jadeja
“The players who score a lot of runs when they are young, they have a great game sense. He has a good idea of the game, so when the game is in control, he won’t throw it away, but if he makes some additions to his skills, he can be even better,” he added
Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, according to Ajay Jadeja, has routinely performed short hits that have provided KKR the impetus they require in their innings, but he has had a terrible season overall.
