MS Dhoni has set another milestone in the Indian Premier League. The Chennai Super Kings captain became the first player in the T20 league to reach 100 catches for a team, accomplishing the feat in IPL 2021 match 44 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Sharjah.
In Ravindra Jadeja’s over against SRH, the former India captain completed his 100th catch for CSK by taking a straightforward one to remove Wriddhiman Saha.
Therefore, Only Suresh Raina (98 for CSK) and Kieron Pollard (94 for Mumbai Indians) are in the same league as MS Dhoni in terms of most catches for a club in the IPL.
However, MS Dhoni already holds the record for most wicketkeeper dismissals in the IPL. Dinesh Karthik, the former captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, was just passed by him. In 215 games, Dhoni has 158 dismissals, eight more than Karthik. As a wicketkeeper in the main T20 league, Dhoni has 119 catches and 39 stumps.
Dhoni collected three catches as he was involved in the dismissals of Jason Roy, Wriddhiman Saha, and Priyam Garg for SRH, who were reduced to 134/7 in Sharjah after Josh Hazlewood and Dwayne Bravo combined for five wickets.
AB de Villiers
Thus, Dhoni is the only player in IPL history to take three or more catches in ten different games. Though AB de Villiers is second on the list of those who have done something unusual five times.
Dhoni may not have lit up the IPL 2021 with his bat. But he has played a key role in Chennai Super Kings’ golden run. He has demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the best white-ball captains in the world. With his field settings, bowling changes, and other strategies.
Dhoni, who will retire from international cricket in 2020, has only scored 52 runs in ten games. But CSK is on the verge of becoming the first team to qualify for the play-offs. CSK was sitting atop the IPL 2021 points table with 8 victories from 10 matches. After winning three in a row upon their return to the UAE.
