The cricketing world is eagerly anticipating Rishabh Pant’s return to competitive cricket during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).
The 26-year-old was involve in a tragic accident in December 2022. He received several injuries that required a long time to recover. However, following extensive rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, the southpaw has been clear to play in the 17th season of the IPL as a wicketkeeper-batsman. Cricket fans are eager to see the flamboyant player in action again. AB de Villiers, one of the best cricketers in IPL history, expressed his enthusiasm at the thought of seeing Pant return to the pitch.

I absolutely love watching Rishabh Pant play: AB de Villiers
The South African hero wore No. 17 on his shirt, which Pant also does. De Villiers stated that it is one of the reasons for his personal bond with the Roorkee native. Pant’s only IPL century came in 2018 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, when he hit an unbroken 128 runs off 63 deliveries. De Villiers hopes to see the youngster achieve multiple centuries in the IPL 2024.
“He has the number 17 on his back; I used to have 17 on mine. There’s some synergy, and I really enjoy seeing this guy play. He scored an IPL hundred; perhaps this will be the season for number two, three, or even four,” De Villiers said.
Last year, David Warner led the Delhi Capitals in Pant’s absence. The franchise finish ninth in the 10-team tournament, having won five and lost nine of their 14 matches. This year, Pant will be back at the helm, and Delhi fans can be optimistic about their chances in the lucrative competition. The Delhi Capitals will face the Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday, March 23, to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign.
