Shubman Gill, the Indian cricket team’s premier batsman, will miss the fourth day of the ongoing second Test against England owing to a finger injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Gill had injured his right index finger while fielding on day two.

“UPDATE: Shubman Gill injured his right index finger while fielding on day two. He will not be taking the field today,” BCCI announced on its ‘X’ handle.

Sarfaraz Khan, Mumbai’s domestic cricket sensation, is filling in for Gill who is injured. Gill, who recently silence detractors with a century on the third day of the second Test after overcoming a 12-inning slump, will be hoping for a quick recovery. His brilliant 104-run innings, which included 11 fours and two sixes, marked a welcome return to form.

England are currently 166 for four in their record pursuit of 399 runs. Jonny Bairstow and Zak Crawley batting at nine and 62 respectively. Ravi Ashwin has taken three key wickets for India thus far. On the morning of Day 4, Axar Patel dismissed Rehan Ahmad, who was declared plumb lbw after scoring 23.
