On Sunday, September 17, India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 50 after electing to bat first. Thanks to a spectacular spell from Mohammed Siraj, who took 6/21 in seven overs. In response, India chased down the mark in 6.1 overs to win their ninth Asia Cup.
Following the conclusion of the game, this image of Virat Kohli quietly celebrating a wicket went viral on social media. Kohli, who is notorious for aggressively celebrating every wicket, is seen lying down on the turf with his eyes closed after India’s ninth wicket in the first innings.
The event occurred on the first ball of the 16th over. When Kohli safely caught a catch at first slip after Hardik Pandya found the outside edge of Pramod Madushan. After being dismissed, the star batsman decided to celebrate in an unusual way. Symbolizing India’s first innings performance in which they were able to bundle out Sri Lanka quickly and easily.
Returning to the match, Siraj bowled his best ODI statistics (6/21) while Jasprit Bumrah (1/23, 5 overs) and Hardik Pandya (3/3 in 2.2 overs) also took wickets. In response, India batted with a fresh opening duo of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill.

India claimed their eighth Asia Cup title
From the first over, the tandem came out with all guns blazing and began dealing in boundaries. India chased down the goal in 6.1 overs. Recorded their biggest win in terms of balls remained (263 balls) thanks to their aggressive approach. Kishan scored 23* (18) to remain unbeaten, while Gill scored 27* off 19.
As a result, India won their seventh Asia Cup and maintained their domination in the continental tournament. The Men in Blue have won the most titles in the tournament’s history, followed by Sri Lanka (six) and Pakistan (two).
