Rohit Sharma discusses Tilak Varma’s ODI World Cup chances. Tilak Varma has scored the most runs in the T20I series against the West Indies so far.
Tilak Varma is the leading run-scorer in the present T20I series against the West Indies. The 20-year-old has 139 runs in three innings with an average of 69.50 and a strike rate of 139.
Varma has so wowed the cricketing world that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has asked selectors to consider him for the ODI World Cup 2023.
Recently, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed his opinions on the youngster’s performances and professed his admiration for him. Notably, Varma made his debut in the IPL 2022 with the Mumbai Indians, led by Sharma. With 397 runs scored, he concluded the season as his team’s second-highest run scorer.
“He appears to be quite promising. I’ve known him for two years, and the most important thing is that he’s hungry. I can see in him that he is quite mature for his age. He is an expert at batting. “When I speak with him, I get the impression that the boy knows his batting – where he has to hit, what he has to do during that period,” he was cited as saying by the Hindustan Times.
Speaking further about his World Cup hopes, the Indian captain stated that he is unsure, but praised him (Tilak Varma) for his talent.
“That’s all I’ll say about him; I’m not sure about the World Cup and all, but the guy is talented, and he showed it in these few games for India,” he continued.

India face another must-win encounter in fourth T20I
Notably, Varma led India in scoring in the first two T20Is, with innings of 39 (22) and 51 (41). Furthermore, he hit a magnificent 49* (37) in the third T20I to help India stay in the series. Meanwhile, the ‘Men in Blue’ face the West Indies in the fourth Twenty20 International on Saturday, August 12 at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida.
