Todd Murphy anticipates a tough battle ahead of a possible Ashes debut. In the third Test, England will face Australia at Headingley.
The Ben Stokes-led England team is off to a bad start in the Ashes 2023. England failed to make a comeback in the series at Lord’s after losing the first Test by the narrowest of margins in Edgbaston, and they also lost the second Test by 43 runs.
As Australia tightens their grip on the series, they will be without veteran spinner Nathan Lyon, who suffered a calf injury in the second game. Todd Murphy, 22, is poised to replace him in the third Test at Headingley.
Murphy has opened out about his nerves ahead of his prospective Ashes debut. The 22-year-old said he expects a hostile atmosphere at Headingley, especially after Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal in the second Test.
“They made a lot of noise but were all very friendly; speaking with the boys, this is probably the most hostile ground in England.” I’m looking forward to it if given the chance, having grown up watching Ashes cricket. It’ll be different, and I’m sure they won’t hold back, so embrace it and try to have fun…”There’s no doubt it’s going to come down hard,” Murphy was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Think they’ll probably come even harder at me: Murphy
Furthermore, Murphy believes he is well prepared to face England’s ‘Bazball’ style and is aware that the English batters would be going after him more due to his inexperience.
“I think they’ll come after me even harder; obviously, I haven’t played a lot of Test cricket, so there’s a challenge there.” “They keep taking the game on, and I think it’s about navigating through that, coming up with a few different ideas that can help, and trying to keep creating chances,” Murphy explained.
