On April 24, the Delhi Capitals resumed their winning streak by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs.
The Delhi Capitals defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 34th match of the current Indian Premier League 2023 in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The visitors defeated the hosts by a score of seven runs.
After winning the toss, Capitals skipper David Warner elected to bat first and had a catastrophic start to their season when wicketkeeper batsman Phil Salt sent out for a golden duck by T Natarajan, who trapped him lbw on the third ball of the session. Warner couldn’t help himself either, as the team’s leading scorer left following a 21-run inning on 20 balls. However, equinumerous 34-run innings from Axar Patel and Manish Pandey aided DC’s 144-run total. The hosts, who appeared to be on track to easily chase down the goal early in the innings, lost their middle-order in a cluster, falling 7 runs short.

Aside from a few valiant knocks, the SRH batting order has mostly appeared off-color during the ongoing competition. Mayank Agarwal, regarded as one of the team’s batting stalwarts, has failed to live up to the hype with a streak of poor scores. His lackluster performance in the top order saw him relegated to no. 6 in SRH’s preceding game against Chennai Super Kings, but that again failed to pay rewards.
Returning to his preferred opening place, Agarwal finally produced an impacting innings, falling just one run short of his well-deserved half-century but controlling the proceedings in the first half of the innings. His 49-run inning came on 39 balls, including seven home runs.

While SRH appeare to be cruising to the mark, Delhi’s spin twins Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav provided consistent breakthroughs to keep Delhi in the game. Hyderabad reduce from 69/1 to 85/5 in three overs as a result of their efforts.
Axar Patel dismissed the dangerous-looking Mayank Agarwal before returning in the 15th over to dismiss skipper Aiden Markram. Meanwhile, Yadav caught Abhishek Sharma off his own bowling attempts to turn the tide in the visitors’ favor. While Patel concluded with frugal statistics of 2/21 in four overs, Yadav was as effective, conceding only 22 runs in his four-over performance.

Not good with the bat. Not enough intent, not excited to win a game of cricket unfortunately. We have to go back and see how we can be free and be better. It is difficult, you can say all the right things but guys have to buy into it. We want to play a certain brand of cricket and if we get it wrong doing that then we’ll sleep a lot better at night. Tonight we lacked intent, unfortunately we are letting us down because of a lack of intent. I would love to do that to be honest, something I quite enjoy doing, guys need to work hard [on motivating the team]. Incredibly proud of them, kept it pretty simple and used the conditions really well. Our bowling does not deserve to be on the losing side but a small bit of positivity I suppose.

Love it here, it’s an amazing crowd, they always come here and support. Thanks for all the support. The game throws us challenges, for us, it’s great to get two points. Mukesh under pressure was amazing. Well done to him and the the two spinners, they’ve been our rock. These two are experienced bowlers, they are never going to let you down. From day one, he (Ishant) kept on telling me that was he ready. Unfortunately he was sick few games before but credit to him. He’s worked very hard to get back into the IPL. To get an opportunity and to bowl upfront like he has, that’s exceptional. We spoke about it at the end of 0 (wins) out of 5 (games), that teams have won before from there. Hopefully we can make it three in a row. We’ve got back-to-back games against Sunrisers, so we have to start again.

(What gave him more joy, his batting or bowling returns?) 2/21 since I scored 34 in 34 so the two wickets were more important. I ordered for coffee and I left the glass like that, when three wickets fell in one over. Pandey and I discussed we need to take it as deep as possible. (On the surface) It was slow, the ball was coming off slowly. I felt that me and Kuldeep can tie up the batters on this surface, so it was enjoyable. (Whose wicket did he enjoy more, Mayank’s or Markram’s?) I keep getting wickets in the form of knocking over batters but getting a wicket off the slower one (Mayank’s wicket) was more enjoyable.
