Aakash Chopra examines India’s team combination before the first Test against Australia. Shreyas Iyer will miss the first Test and is questionable for the second.
Former India batsman Aakash Chopra says Shreyas Iyer’s absence from the first Test against Australia has put Rohit Sharma and his team in a tough position. Suryakumar Yadav, he believes, is the only number five batter available for selection. However, with other players in form and the Mumbai hitter lacking experience playing red-ball cricket at the highest level, the 32-year-old may struggle to reach the starting XI.
The 45-year-old also stated that while Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill. KL Rahul are the team’s chosen openers, Rahul can bat at number five if necessary due to his expertise in the middle order.
“Another issue is Shreyas Iyer’s injury. It has unexpectedly unlocked a Pandora’s box, and who should you play? Suryakumar Yadav is the team’s No. 5 batter, and he sits outside.
Shubman Gill’s argument (to begin with Rohit) is quite strong. Since he is coming after scoring runs in Bangladesh as well, and no one has scored more runs than him in 2023. The guy isn’t going down without a fight. So you believe you can persuade him to open. If he is forced to begin with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul may be demoted down the order. ” Chopra remarked on his YouTube account.

Suryakumar Yadav can make his debut, but with Australia ahead, you might not be so sure: Chopra
Suryakumar Yadav is undoubtedly the first name on the squad sheet in T20 cricket, but the same cannot be said for the other two forms. However, the Mumbai-born hitter has won a position in India’s team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but Aakash Chopra feels that the batsman may not get his maiden cap because Australia is a tough opponent to cope with.
“The injury issues are a minor stumbling block. “You may give Suryakumar Yadav his debut, but I personally feel the first match with Australia in front, you might not be so confident,” Chopra remarked on the same show.
