Mickey Arthur declines PCB’s invitation to be head coach. The former Pakistani head coach took over at Derbyshire before of the 2022 season. He also manage Dambulla Aura in the Lanka Premier League.
Mickey Arthur, the head coach of Derbyshire, is said to turn down an offer from the PCB to coach the men’s senior national side. PCB revealed their unsuccessful effort to appointing the former head coach, citing Arthur’s long-term commitment with Derbyshire as the reason.
Arthur also stated his intention to remain at Derbyshire despite a strong offer to head coach a national cricket team again. He stated that Derbyshire is near to his heart and that the people there make him feel welcome.
“I’ve always stated that Derbyshire is a county near to my heart since working with the likes of Eddie Barlow and Fred Swarbrook. My first season with the Club has only helped that feeling deepen. “Supporters have made me feel instantly welcome; we have a squad full of promise, and I’m looking forward to developing it and competing for trophies at the pinnacle of county cricket. ” Mickey Arthur cited as saying by Indian Express.
The 54-year-old joins Derbyshire before the 2022 season and previously managed Dambulla Aura in the just finished Lanka Premier League 2022. However, Dambulla concluded the season in last place with only two victories from eight matches, although Derbyshire experienced a good comeback during the 2022 County Championship under Arthur.

The search for a new head coach at PCB continues
During the 2016-19 season, Arthur was the head coach of Pakistan’s national team. He led Pakistan to the 2017 Champions Trophy and the top place on the ICC T20I Team rankings. He fired, though, following Pakistan’s dismal performances in the 2019 ICC World Cup. The contract of the current Pakistani head coach, Saqlain Mushtaq. Expires in February 2023, while the PCB continues its hunt for a new head coach.
“We have also considered a plan to operate as a consultant to the PCB on a time-sharing basis with Derbyshire due to his long-term commitment with Derbyshire. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons on both sides, this alternative is proving difficult to realize. Given the circumstances, the PCB will continue its search for the proper individual to fill the position of national team head coach. Certain high-profile candidates are already being considered. ” On January 10, the PCB issued an official statement.
