Suresh Raina, a former India cricketer, is set to retire from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the 2022 season. He went unsold in the mega auction after the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did not retain him and there were no bidders. Raina announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020, the same day MS Dhoni announced his retirement from the sport.
Suresh Raina has announced his retirement from the IPL ahead of the 2023 season, according to a report in Dainik Jagran. It also state that the cricketer had informed the BCCI and the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association of his decision (UPCA). He will now play in T20 leagues around the world.
“I want to play cricket for another 2-3 years. The Uttar Pradesh team has some talented cricketers who have been performing admirably. I received permission from the UPCA and informed BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and Vice-President Rajeev Shukla of my decision. I am grateful to UPCA and BCCI for their assistance throughout my career. Now I’ll be competing in T20 leagues all over the world “Raina stated.

Suresh Raina appeared in 205 IPL matches.
Suresh Raina will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the tournament’s best players. He spent most of his career with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and also appeared for the Gujarat Lions when the franchise was suspended in 2016 and 2017. In his IPL career, the southpaw scored 5528 runs in 200 innings at an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.73. He didn’t bowl much in the IPL, but he managed to pick up 25 wickets.
He recently shared videos of himself training in the CSK jersey, leading many to believe that he would be returning to the IPL for the upcoming season. But it wasn’t to be, and it’s unclear whether he’ll play in any overseas T20 leagues in the near future. Notably, CSK has purchased a franchise in the SA T20 League, Johannesburg Super Kings, and it will be interesting to see if they sign him for the tournament.
