Including the Asia Cup. India has not won an ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013, and all eyes will be on Rohit to break that streak. Several Indian players have performed admirably in the T20 format in recent months, with Hardik Pandya prominent among them. So, when Ricky Ponting ask on ‘The ICC Review’ to name the top five players he would pick for a World T20I team, Pandya one of the first names he mention.

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was also named to the list by the former Australian cricket captain. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan was Ponting’s first choice, followed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Pandya, England’s Jos Buttler, and Bumrah.
“On current form, it’s pretty hard to go past Hardik Pandya at number three,” Ponting said of Pandya. His IPL was excellent. To see him back at the bowling crease is something I was never sure would happen; he’s had some major injury setbacks, which has obviously limited how much he’s been able to play for India.
“But he’s back bowling, and at 140kph, as he was four or five years ago.” However, his batting and maturity have improved by leaps and bounds.
“He understands the game and his game better than ever before, and he’s probably the best allrounder in the world in T20 cricket right now, and could potentially be in ODI cricket.”
“Jasprit Bumrah in at number five,” Ponting said of Bumrah. He is currently the most complete bowler in the world across Test cricket, One Day cricket, and T20 cricket. When anyone decides to use him with the new ball, he’s very good.
“India may consider giving him an over with the new ball in Australia (for the T20 World Cup), where it may swing, but what you can guarantee is a couple of great high quality death overs, which every team is looking for – someone who can execute slow balls and bouncers.”
