When Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from India’s Test team against Sri Lanka in February, many wondered if it was the end of the road for the veteran batter. He’d been going through a dry spell for quite some time. Pujara, on the other hand, made an inspiring return to the Indian team after playing excellent cricket for his County team Sussex and Ranji team Saurashtra. Pujara scored a double century in his first match for Sussex and then went on to score another 200-plus score. He also hit two centuries.
“It’s about playing as many first-class games as possible, and I believe the experience was crucial for me. Because it’s important to have some long innings when you’re trying to get back into shape, find your rhythm, and focus. When I was playing for Sussex, I felt like my rhythm had returned after the first big knock against Derby. My focus improved, and everything began to fall into place “Pujara stated in a video posted on BCCI.tv.

“Back To Normal…”: Cheteshwar Pujara Team India Comeback
“You must apply yourself if you want to perform well for your team. You learn so much when you play competitive cricket. But sometimes you need that experience, that time in the middle, and that was crucial.”
“Even at home, I was preparing for this. Even before, I joined the Sussex team. For Saurashtra, I played three Ranji Trophy games. Even so, I found my stride. I knew I was hitting well. It was all about racking up a big score. When I got that in my first game, I knew everything had returned to normal. I’m getting my bearings. Everything was going well with my backlift. After that, I just wanted to have fun with my game. Make an effort to contribute to the team’s success. The most important thing is to have fun on the field.”
