Roy had previously played for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League before withdrawing from the IPL 2022. He scored 303 runs in six matches, with an average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 170.22.

Despite his stellar on-field performances, Jason Roy admitted that his mental health was suffering off the field.

“Things weren’t right with me mentally at the PSL. ” Roy said, according to skysports.com. “I was in a strange place because I was playing good cricket but I wasn’t having fun, I wasn’t happy, and it was just a dark time.”

“After a difficult couple of years, it was just a good two months to come home and live a normal life for a while.

“There were many months to go. After spending over 50 days in a hotel the previous year, having a child in January and having to spend time away from him was just too much.”

He continued: “I missed the IPL to spend some time at home, and it has refreshed my mind and body, as well as helped me recognize where I was at with many things.

“So, it’s nice to be here now, and I’m eager to put the badge back on.” Surrey is in the same boat. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

“It’s nice to be back in love with the game.”

Jason Roy has rejoined the England squad for the ongoing ODI series in the Netherlands.

Roy, who scored a single run in England’s record total of 498 in the first ODI, redeemed himself in the second by hitting 73 off 60 balls as England took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final match to be played at the VRA cricket ground outside Amsterdam.
