Michael Hussey recalls MS Dhoni becoming emotional during CSK’s comeback in 2018. CSK and the Rajasthan Royals were both ban for two years for their alleged involvement in the infamous spot-fixing scandal.
MS Dhoni is synonymous with Chennai Super Kings, as the talismanic wicketkeeper-batter has been associated with the franchise since the first edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. Dhoni has led the Yellow Army to four titles and perfection. Furthermore, with the exception of the 2020 season, CSK has qualified for the playoffs in every season in which they have competed.
Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020, but he continues to play for CSK in the IPL. He even took over the captaincy from Ravindra Jadeja midway through the current 2022 season, as the all-rounder was feeling the strain of the added responsibility. Notably, in addition to CSK, Dhoni served another IPL franchise – Rising Pune Supergiant – in 2016

Nonetheless, 2018 marked CSK’s return to the IPL, and MS Dhoni was overjoyed to be back in charge CSK batting coach Michael Hussey revealed that the talismanic cricketer delivered an enthralling speech at the start of the 2018 edition, and that the former Indian captain was overcome with emotion.

“I don’t think there’s one specific memory, but we see these championship-winning photos on the wall… I believe it will be the 2018 season. For two years, we were out of the competition. “We came back, and I remember MS giving a speech right at the start of the season,” Hussey told former Australian opener Matthew Hayden in a CSK ‘Super Reunion’ video.
“He actually started crying; tears were coming out of his eyes, and I remember thinking, ‘Something special is going on here,'” he added. Hussey went on to say that CSK’s title-winning comeback campaign gave him goosebumps.
“It was a memorable season.” Just thinking about what happened that year gives you goosebumps. It was almost as if returning to the IPL was predestined. MS performed admirably throughout the season. “It was just a special time,” he added.
