Ricky Ponting’s Get up and go Conversation Made a difference COVID-Hit Delhi Capitals Beat Punjab Kings, agreeing to Axar Patel.
Axar Patel, a Delhi Capitals all-rounder who was hit hard by the COVID-19 outbreak before their IPL game; against Punjab Kings, stated a pep talk from head coach Ricky Ponting did wonders; in improving the team’s spirit, resulting in a comprehensive win.

“We were confine, and two-three days later, we started practicing, he (Ponting) informed us we had two possibilities. The game must be played. You may believe that there are positive cases and that the necessary preparations have not been made.
“Alternatively, you can believe that all external factors are beyond our control; and that you must demonstrate dedication in terms of effort and preparedness,” Axar explained.
“We were focused on our game (and) we planned ahead of time” (accordingly). So that was it, that was the speech, and that was our thinking,” said the left-arm spinner; who took two wickets and was instrumental in reducing Punjab to 115 runs.
Delhi first dismissed Punjab Lords for 115 runs recently; cruising to the target in just 10.3 overs, thanks in large part to David Warner’s unbeaten 60.

Axar was overjoyed with partner Kuldeep Yadav’s return to form, noting that the Delhi club administration; had provided him with the assurance he needed to thrive following a disastrous; 2016 IPL season with the Kolkata Knight Riders. “As you mentioned, one’s attitude is crucial.
I had already stated that he (Kuldeep) would demand certainty when he arrived. You lose confidence after a season or two of not playing well, but Rishabh (Gasp); I, and the coaching staff – Ricky (Ponting) provided him the assurance he needed “Axar added his two cents.
“In the practice match, we gave him confidence and assured him that he would; play in all of the games and that he didn’t need to be concerned about his performance.”
