Rahul Dravid opens up on emotion-laden celebration following T20 World Cup win. India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 after defeating South Africa by seven runs.

Rahul Dravid opens up a very emotional player on the field. But the 51-year-old showed off his other side when India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, jubilantly celebrating with the trophy. He made every effort to avoid attention for as long as possible, but after earning the victory with hard work, he became combative when Virat Kohli gave him the trophy.

In response, Dravid stated that he was content with India’s victory and had not planned any of those

As a coach, he claimed, he always made an effort to control his emotions, but at that particular moment, he wanted to celebrate with the team and his coaching staff because they had worked so hard to complete the task.

These are not things that you plan. As a coach, I typically attempt to control my emotions, and you are expected to do the same. However, I was extremely pleased for the team at the moment. I was pleased for the boys. I was please for the support team. In an interview with Star Sports, Dravid said, “So many people who had worked really hard along with me.”

The former cricket player also discussed the importance of luck in winning international competitions. India lost to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinals, and they also lost to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup and World Test Championship finals. Although the team did not cross the finish line in critical moments, he expressed his happiness that they did at the T20 World Cup in 2024.

“I had been with the team for two to three years, and we had been close a few times—in the World Test Championship final, the 50-over World Cup final in India, or the semifinals of the most recent T20 World Cup in Australia—but we were just unable to cross the finish line at those crucial times. That day, it worked out well for us. In those kinds of circumstances, you need a little bit of destiny and luck,” he said in the same exchange.
