Sanju Samson fined for slow turnover rate against Gujarat Titans. Samson was fined INR 12 lakh.
The Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans faced off in the 24th game of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After several back-and-forth moments in the match, the Gujarat Titans broke the Royals’ unbeaten streak and handed them their first loss of the season.
However, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) fined RR skipper Sanju Samson following the game. Samson was fined after his team maintained a slow over rate against the Gujarat Titans.
“Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs for his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum overrate offences,” according to an IPL statement.

RR maintain first place in standings despite first loss
The match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans featured outstanding performances from both teams. The Royals’ openers struggled to make an impact when they batted first. However, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag’s knocks helped the team post a large total on the board.
Samson scored 68* runs in 38 deliveries, while Parag made 76 runs in 48 balls. The hosts scored 196 runs in the first innings. Gujarat’s Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, and Rashid Khan each took one wicket in the first innings.
Gujarat started the match slowly, aiming to defend the target. Sai Sudharsan scored 35 runs in 29 deliveries, while skipper Shubman Gill picked up the pace later in the game, scoring 72 runs in 44 deliveries. Furthermore, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia scored 24* and 22 runs, respectively, to help Gujarat Titans defeat Rajasthan Royals by three wickets.
Despite suffering their first loss of the season, the Royals maintained their position in the IPL 2024 standings. With four wins and one loss, the inaugural champions lead the points table with eight points.
