“The BCCI’s decision-makers are aware that certain players do not want to play red-ball cricket. If they are not select for the Indian team. They would play a few Mushtaq Ali T20 games before failing to appear for state team duty during red-ball season, according to a senior BCCI official quoted by the PTI.
“To rein in such players, the board will most likely make it essential for them to play 3-4 Ranji Trophy games; else, they will be bar from playing IPL or even appearing in the IPL auction if release by their club. The state units believe that until the diktat comes from the top of the BCCI, some rising stars may disregard the Ranji Trophy,” the official continued.
Furthermore, the BCCI official gave some information on the famous India all-rounder and the new MI captain. He said that Pandya’s physique is not in the finest shape to handle the grueling demands of Test cricket. As a result, it was appropriate for him to favor a short overs format while being available for key International Cricket Council (ICC) events. However, other young players utilize fitness routines as an excuse to abandon domestic games such as the Ranji Trophy.
“We understand Hardik Pandya’s case since his body cannot withstand the rigours of red-ball cricket. He can’t handle the workload of Test cricket, and India needs him to be fit for ICC events. However, when you phone some of the other young people, they will say that they are currently undergoing physiotherapy. “There has to be a stop somewhere,” he added.

Aside from Ishan Kishan’s recent antics, there was widespread suspicion that the Indian board will terminate the Jharkhand batters’ central contract. In the similar line, when asked about the likelihood of the board cracking down on Ishan Kishan after ignoring the Ranji Trophy 2024, the official disclosed that there has been no talk about Kishan’s central contract so far. “There are currently no discussions about central contracts,” said the top BCCI official.
Furthermore, among the alternatives for Team India’s future plans for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024, the official revealed that the board has likely opted to send players early to New York if their team fails to qualify for the IPL playoffs round. The remaining players who are expected to earn a berth in Men in Blue’s squad will be sent after the IPL 2024. Notably, the ICC, cricket’s main governing body, will hold the T20 World Cup immediately after India’s largest cricket carnival.
