After losing their first two games, Nepal won their first game of the U-19 World Cup 2024. Defeating Afghanistan in an exciting match during Match 19 on Friday, January 26 at Buffalo Park in East London. Chasing a goal of 146, Nepal put the game on a knife’s edge when they lost their ninth wicket with two runs needed to win. However, Subash Bhandari got his team over the line with a boundary on the fourth delivery of the 45th over, allowing Nepal to win by one wicket.

Captain Dev Khanal starred with the bat for Nepal U19
Returning to the Nepal vs Afghanistan U19 match, after winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Afghanistan were reduce to 43/6 after 11.3 overs. Crucial knocks from Naseer Khan Maroofkhil (31 off 83), Allah Ghazanfar (37 off 21), and Faridoon Dawoodzai (29 off 65) helped their team reach 145. Aakash Chand shined with the ball for Nepal, taking 5/34 in eight overs.
In response, Nepal were reduced to 24/3 after 8.1 overs when captain Dev Khanal stabilised the innings with a half-century (58 off 89). Dipak Bohara (27 off 42) contributed significantly as well. Leaving his team only six runs away from victory with two wickets remaining. Subash Bhandari completed the scoring for his team. Resulting in their first win of the competition.
