Michael Vaughan demands ‘dedicated window’ to protect Test cricket

Michael Vaughan demands ‘dedicated window’ to protect Test cricket.”A three-month window for Test cricket every year for both men’s and women’s teams is the only way to protect the greatest format.” The former England captain wrote on X.

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan recently turned to X. (Previously known as Twitter) to beg for a three-month dedicated window solely for Test cricket and no other format. The tweet was about maintaining the game’s longest format, as many cricketers and cricket bodies have recently prioritized shorter formats.

It is worth remembering that India will face England in a five-game Test series in the subcontinent beginning on January 25. This will also be the Three Lions’ first red-ball assignment of the year. In light of his preference for the red-ball format. the former English cricketer spoke out, stating that the game’s oldest version should have its own schedule.

With a plethora of T20 leagues being staged throughout the world, Vaughan believes that all of them should be held, but not during the window reserved for the longest format. All domestic competitions, including the ICC’s showpiece events, should take place outside the window, according to a recent X post by the 49-year-old.

“A 3 month dedicated window for Test cricket every year for both the men & women’s teams is the only way to protect the greatest format .. no other cricket but Test around those 3 months .. the other 9 months for all the leagues ICC events,” Vaughan said on his Facebook page.

4 day games should be the way now: Vaughan

Furthermore, the ex-cricketer discussed how the life of Test cricket may be extended. In response to a user who expressed concern that Test cricket was on its way out, Vaughan agreed with him and suggested that the transition from five to four days be done to ensure the survival of Test cricket. Overall, he believes that four-day games spread over a three-month period will help to sustain Tests.

“You could be correct… that is why we must do all possible to save it. Also, I believe four-day games are the way to go today,” Vaughan tweeted.

Meanwhile, the first Test will be place in Hyderabad as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-25. The Indian team is currently in second place in the WTC standings, having scored 26 points in four matches. England, on the other hand, is in seventh place with nine points from five games; as they tour India, the Ben Stokes-led side will try to improve their standings.
