Keshav Maharaj becomes No 1 ODI bowler in latest ICC player rankings. Keshav Maharaj has taken the third most wickets for South Africa thus far in the competition.
Ahead of the semi-finals of the current ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has dethroned Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj from the top place in the ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings. In the most recent ranking update, Maharaj has risen to the top with 726 points. While Siraj is in second place with 723 ratings.
The 33-year-old has had an outstanding competition, taking 14 wickets from nine innings at an average of 24.71 and a great economy of 4.37. Maharaj is South Africa’s third-highest wicket-taker in the present cricketing spectacular, with a best of 4/46 against New Zealand in Pune.
In a high-scoring game in Kolkata, he also bowled a stunning spell of 1/30 in 10 overs against India. Apart from his bowling exploits, Maharaj excelled with the bat for the Proteas in their sixth league match against Pakistan in Chennai. Scoring the winning boundary in the 48th over with just one wicket remaining in the innings.
Siraj, on the other hand, has been in excellent form in the 2017 World Cup, taking 12 wickets from nine matches at an average of 28.83 and an economy of 5.20. Jasprit Bumrah, his new ball partner, has risen two places to fourth place, with 687 ratings. Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, on the other hand, has advanced two positions and currently sits in fifth place with 682 ratings.

Virat Kohli slips down to fourth spot
Apart from the bowlers, Shubman Gill has maintained his top spot in the ODI batters’ rankings. The 24-year-old has 832 ratings to his name after he dethroned Pakistan skipper Babar Azam from the top last week. Babar occupies the second spot with 824 ratings while star India batter Virat Kohli has also dropped one place below and now sits on the fourth spot with 772 ratings. Kohli has been replaced by South Africa wicketkeeper batter Quinton de Kock who’s having a dream run in the ongoing World Cup and now sits on the third spot in the batters’ rankings with 773 ratings to his name.
