On August 9, star Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw etched his name in the annals of English cricket history by scoring an undefeated double century against Somerset in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2023. The 23-year-old joined a select group of cricketers throughout the world who have reached this milestone in the event. His amazing performance broke the previous year’s record of 206 set by Ollie Robinson.
After receiving criticism for his recent form. The teenager hushed everyone with a stunning innings against Northamptonshire in the county’s third group-stage encounter of the season. Shaw showcased his true batting talent, slamming an astonishing 244 off 153 balls with 28 fours and 11 big sixes, after scoring 60 runs in the previous two matches combined.

Furthermore, his incredible performance surpassed the previous record held by Ollie Robinson and Ali Orr. In the 2022 edition, Robinson and Orr set the standard by scoring 206 runs apiece, securing the competition’s first-ever double century.
Shaw has seen ups and downs during the tournament. The cricketer had an unexpected dismissal in the opening game against Gloucestershire, when he was hit wicket for 34. As a result, he could only manage 26 runs against Sussex. Shaw, on the other hand, hit the double-hundred mark in just 129 balls. Creating a new record for the fastest double-hundred in England’s List A cricket.
Shaw’s career in cricket has been spectacular thus far, with participation in 56 List A games. He has almost 2700 runs at an amazing average of 51, including eight hundreds and 11 fifties. Shaw will try to sustain his excellent form in the forthcoming matches. Which may give him a chance to return to the Indian team.
