Josh Tongue discusses his selection for the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. The second Ashes Test between England and Australia begins on Wednesday, June 28 at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The first Test of the Ashes 2023 got off to a rousing start, with England and Australia trading blows throughout the five-day match. However, it was skipper Pat Cummins’ superb innings late in the contest that pushed the Aussies to a magnificent two-wicket triumph.
With the second Ashes Test due to begin on Wednesday, June 28 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, England has selected their lineup as they try to reclaim the series. Notably, veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali was omitted from the squad, while 25-year-old Josh Tongue was added as England opts for an all-out pace attack with Joe Root as the spin option.

Josh Tongue came forward to reminisce on the event in a video posted by the ECB
Said he was very excited to get on the pitch and accomplish his childhood dream.
“It’s an incredible feeling.” As a child, I always wanted to be in an Ashes series. “It’s a dream come true, and I can’t wait to get started,” Josh Tongue said in the video.
“Anyone who has played in an Ashes series would agree that it is unique.” It’s a memorable event for me and my family because of what I’ve been through as well. “I can’t wait to be here in front of a packed house at Lord’s, the Home of Cricket,” he continued.
It’s just an amazing feeling to get the nod: Tongue
Despite his selection, Tongue will not be making his Lord’s debut for the first time, as he recently made his international debut against Ireland in a one-off Test. Tongue also discussed his performance against Ireland, in which he took five wickets in the second innings.
“I don’t think the Ireland Test match has really sunk in yet.” It’s an incredible feeling to be selected; it was a memorable time for me because I didn’t get any wickets in the first innings. But getting the first two wickets in the first over relieved some of my strain. “It’s always special to get five wickets at Lord’s and to be on the Honours Board,” Tongue added.
