Nasser Hussain opines on. England’s playing XI for Lord’s Test. The Lord’s Test will begin on June 28.
With an injury shadow looming over Moeen Ali’s fitness and participation in the Lord’s Test. Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes the hosts can bowl with four seamers and rely on Joe Root’s useful off spin as the only spin bowling option.
Leg spinner Rehan Ahmed, who was outstanding for the Three Lions during the 2022 U19 World Cup in the West Indies. Finishing as the side’s second-leading wicket-taker, has not looked back since and continues to impress in county cricket. He has reward for his efforts and has been added as a replacement for Moeen Ali. Who is now suffering from finger blisters and is racing against the clock to be fit for the second Test at Lord’s.
Though Rehan’s participation has drawn a lot of attention. Hussain believes that the Ben Stokes-led side should go with an extra seam bowling option if the Lord’s track appears favorable to pace and if the weather cooperates.

The English all-rounder had been affect by the same injury in 2017. Hussain state that Lord’s never been a spin-friendly ground and so argued for the inclusion of an extra seamer in England’s bowling arsenal.
“I believe they should take a closer look at their team. “That would be a risk for Moeen Ali, his finger,” Hussain said on The ICC Review podcast.
“I know he has a week off, and he had this injury in 2017. ” Only Moeen knows whether a week is enough time for the skin to heal or whether it will rip up again.
“At Lord’s, he might not bowl as many overs.” Lord’s is not a spinning heaven. Shane Warne never given a five-for in that game.
“I could go with four seamers and Joe Root as your spinner, but I haven’t seen the pitch yet.”
Hussain believes England should replace Moeen with either Mark Wood’s raw pace or Chris Woakes. Who has had fantastic success at Lord’s thus far and is also a useful hitter later down the order.
“He’d probably have to come in for Moeen and use Joe Root as your spinner, so go with four seamers or Chris Wookes,” Hussain suggested.
“Chris Woakes has a fantastic record at Lord’s, and that would help the batting as well, adding another all-rounder in there.”
“So it’s either Woakes or Wood for Moeen Ali.”
